It’s been said that we make a living getting things—money, recognition, promotions—but we make a life by giving things away. I hope you’ll consider adding to the richness of your own life by joining MJ in National Give Something Away Day this Thursday, July 15th.
The day is described as a chance to clean some corner of your home or office to get rid of clutter while also showing someone you care by donating those items. In addition to making the world a better place by reusing and sharing something you no longer need with someone who would appreciate or benefit from it, it’s also the perfect occasion to buy a meal or drink for the person behind you in the drive through line or give a small token gift to a complete stranger “just because.”
At MJ, it’s also a reminder of the many ways we can share our good fortune throughout the year by continuing to give back to the communities where we live and work. As part of our own community initiatives, MJ associates have already volunteered over 2,100 hours with 37 different organizations this past year. We focus much of our efforts on our two current charities of choice: Prevail of Central Indiana, which provides crisis intervention and restorative support services for adult, adolescent and child survivors of crime, and the Arizona Humane Society, which operates a no-kill shelter and is dedicated to saving the most vulnerable animals and enriching the lives of pets and people.
If you’re looking for a place to send some of the things you clear out this Thursday, the Prevail Wish List and the Arizona Humane Society’s Shelter Wish List would both be great places to start. Of course, regardless of where you do send your cleaned-out goodies, they will be appreciated—so get those boxes ready!
