Every March, we celebrate Women’s History Month, a month commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of women’s vital role in American history. This year, Women’s History Month is unlike any other, as it marks the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite a year filled with uncertainties and challenges, women have managed to inspire and elicit change while continuing to break barriers—nationally, globally and at MJ.
Today, after nearly 60 years of service, more than 60% of MJ’s employees are women—two of whom are members of the MJ Executive Team—with females representing over half of MJ’s Leadership Team.
At MJ, we believe that everyone, regardless of title, can be an inspiring leader and a positive influence on those around them. We have numerous female mentors—and mentees—involved in our formal mentorship program, MJ Connect. This program offers a platform to foster employee growth, development and guidance through peer mentoring. We also have a number of female associates who are community leaders in their own right and volunteer with causes important to them, this includes leading our very own MJ Foundation.
Additionally, MJ’s commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has led to the creation of our Diversity, Equity + Inclusion Advisory Council, which provides another leadership opportunity for female associates. This council allows MJ to continue to foster an inclusive work environment and support diversity, equity and inclusion within our organization and in the community-at-large. At this very moment, this council has multiple female leaders, including one who serves as the Co-Chair of the council.
MJ’s female leaders are trailblazers and embody all of MJ’s Core Values. These women are driven by Passion and Determination to see results, Inspire others around them, demonstrate Curiosity and Innovation through their work and, most importantly, are fun to work with. If you haven’t already, we ask that you do something to celebrate women’s history this month. While many of us think of March 2021 as the one-year anniversary mark of the pandemic, try viewing it through a different lens and ask yourself how you can honor and celebrate a woman in your life!
One way you can celebrate and assist women’s advancement is by supporting a women’s nonprofit. For the month of March, we are featuring Dress for Success as MJ’s Charity of the Month. Dress for Success is a global organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Help them change the world, where women live in poverty and don’t have the resources to grow professionally, by donating to your local affiliate or opening a location in a community near you!
