Describing herself as a naturally inquisitive person, Jamie Ancheta admits that she can’t sit still and easily gets bored. Although surprising to some, insurance has been the perfect industry for her.
For someone who is both curious and determined, there are plenty of opportunities to learn and advance in the insurance industry. “You get to help people every day,” she explains. “There are so many different ways you can be involved…with data analytics, finance, and employee communications and engagement. In account management, you can specialize in different products and services. The employee benefits landscape is always changing and there is always something new to discover.”
Jamie is currently a Client Executive in MJ’s Benefits Consulting department in our Phoenix office, but she’s had a front-row seat to insurance her whole life. Her family “has worked in insurance forever,” and she has been in the industry since high school. After college, she worked for a broker as a producer before moving to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, first with their small group account management team and then in their Sales Excellence department. “I learned about implementations, renewals, internal operations, benefit administration systems, CRMs—there was always something new, which I loved,” she says.
As an account manager at BCBS, Jamie had an existing relationship with members of the MJ team. Just as she was considering becoming a stay-at-home mom, a chance encounter at daycare drop off with one of MJ’s top consultants led to a new opportunity. “I quickly saw all the client resources at MJ, how access to multiple carriers leads to the best options for each client and the way MJ operates as a partner and consultant,” she explains. “I was so motivated to work with MJ—there’s a great culture and great fit. I love the people, the accomplishments and the ideal work-life balance that can be found here.”
Her passion has paid off. Jamie has advanced quickly at MJ, and she’s now leading a group or “pod” in our Employee Benefits department and overseeing increasingly complex accounts. Her diverse insurance experience since high school also makes her especially effective as a mentor for our younger team members. The “Emerging Leader” award she’s soon receiving at the Emerging Leaders Conference in Austin, Texas seems tailor-made for Jamie—and it’s great to see her curiosity and dedication acknowledged by the industry she has served so well.
